Mapper of the Month: Aylin Kızılaslan (Turkey)

Who are you ? I am Aylin Kızılaslan from Istanbul, Turkey. I am a medical student in Ataturk University. My nickname and also OpenStreetMap name is ‘deniz yıldızı’ which I only use for charity projects or civil society initiatives. It means starfish in Turkish. It comes from the famous starfish story, one little step towards changing the world.

Who are you? My name is David Morais Ferreira, I was born and raised in Luxembourg and I am currently finishing my master’s in Germany. When and how did you discover OpenStreetMap? As many people do, I stumbled upon OpenStreetMap while looking for a map I could use for hiking and geocaching on my smartphone without having to pay for a mobile data plan.

Mapper of the Month: Allan Mustard (USA/Turkmenistan)

I “met” Allan Mustard when I saw his keynote speech on SOTM 2016. More recently, I read a few of his diary entries where he tells about his surveys. So I decided to contact him for an interview. Who are you ? I am the United States ambassador to Turkmenistan. I live in Ashgabat, and depending on one’s point of view am a professional diplomat, an agricultural economist, a political scientist, a Russian linguist, or an amateur cartographer.

OSMAnd route engine hacking

Did you know that the routing engine of OsmAnd can be tweaked? For example, it is possible to program it so that it avoids all cobblestone. Or, if your left blinker is broken, a route planner with only turns right can be provided. A lot is possible, this is your chance to build your own truly personalized routing engine.

Please introduce yourself My name is Matšeliso Thobei from Maseru, Lesotho. I currently live in Ireland and study MSc Spatial Planning at Dublin Institute of Technology. I work as an Assistant Physical Planner at the Ministry of Local Government since September 2008. I love travelling; listening to music and watching movies and ever since I was introduced to OpenStreetMap mapping became one of my hobbies.

Who are you ? My name is Tomoya Muramoto. I think many OSM mappers have some IT speciality, but I don’t. I’m a chemical engineer. I live in Yokohama, Japan. When and how did you discover OpenStreetMap ? I was a Geocacher. I discovered OSM when the map of Geocaching was changed to OSM.
