Collaborative infrastructure for the smart city

At OpenStreetMap Belgium, we want to be the first to map new things. That’s not just because we like doing that, but also to offer the best service to our data users. And it has an implication for local government too.

Embracing global platforms - but only if you can shape them

In the age of the smart city, the local government is at risk of losing control. As a local player by definition, they can only offer very local services. But who will use them? Do cities really expect citizens, visitors and companies to install an app for Ghent, and an app for Antwerp? Even regions are often too small to work on their own - if only because so many people go in and out of Brussels every day.

Leuven Monthly OpenStreetMap Meetup

We get together to discuss OpenStreetMap.org and related topics.

There are 7 modern computers to work on and there is a projector available. There are also login codes for the wireless network, so please bring your own laptop.

There have been 3 hurricanes in the caribbean, an earthquake in Mexico and floods in Niger, Uganda and Nepal. Maybe we can have a mini mapping party again to help out.

Next Wallonia OpenStreetMap meetup

Let’s meet in Namur for the next Wallonia OpenStreetMap meetup on the 12 Sept. 2017 night! Anyone interested in OSM is welcome, from the absolute beginner to the most experienced mapper. Do not hesitate to come if you are just curious about OpenStreetMap and participatory cartography. We can have a room at Mundo-N (Rue Nanon, 98, Namur, 10 min. from the station) with a beamer, so anyone interested can bring a laptop and present something. We plan to bring some drinks. We may go outside for some mobile applications demo/trial.

I currently live in Pokhara, Nepal but also spend a considerable amount of time in my hometown of Kathmandu, Nepal. Travelling and seeing new places continues to be one of my great passions and mapping has allowed me to travel to places where I will never be able to go physically. Beyond this my hobbies include playing football, cycling and attempting to be away from my computer as much as possible.

Fourth Leuven Monthly OpenStreetMap Meetup

Let’s go outside for a change and map the trees of the arboretum of Heverlee as precisely as we can. I’ll print some maps on paper of what is already there, so we can compare and verify.

Mapper of the Month: Jamie Nadeau (Canada)

Who are you?

I’m Jamie Nadeau. In OSM some people might know me more as LogicalViolinist and on the wiki as james2432. I grew up a bit here and there as we moved a lot when I was younger, some notable places being Kingston, North Bay, Ottawa and Gatineau. My back ground is computer science and am currently working in my field in the Ottawa Valley. I love exploring the world and taking on new challenges. James has been my nickname since primary school. I came up with LogicalViolinist by combining Logic(programming) and Violinist(I enjoy playing the violin)
