Hello. Would you like to introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Karel, online is Dasrakel. I live and map in Roeselare, Belgium. My first experience with cartography was using GIS and the Google Maps API on the internship of my education MCT. I work as a programmer / IT professional. OpenStreetMap is completely separate for me, it’s one of my hobbies.

I am a 37 year old man. I am originally from Nancy in Lorraine, France. I have been living near Paris for 10 years. I work in human resources in a hospital environment.

Hello Constantine. Would you like to briefly introduce yourself to our readers?

Yes, Well, I’m currently Volunteering at Tanzania Development Trust (TDT) on a crowdmapping project of rural Tanzania in OpenStreetMap and I am mapping rural Tanzania into OpenStreetMap via a remote mapping using satellite imagery.

The reason I chose to go for this job is that I saw a call for volunteers on United Nations Volunteers (UNV) portal and I thought I would be able to help add schools, hospitals, roads, buildings and villages to OpenStreetMap so that communities can better navigate, plan their development and progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and to help activists better protect girls from Female genital mutilation (FGM).

One of my key accomplishments in my current role has been helping Tanzania Development Trust achieve their target within a short period of time.

I have so far managed to map over 3 193 buildings and over 87 kilometres of roads in the short time I have been mapping.

Hello Mishari! Would you like to briefly introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m Mishari Muqbil, based in Bangkok, Thailand, and I attribute much of who I am to the open source movement. Presently I’m an InnerSource coach, which is I help organisations and teams adopt open source principles and methodologies.

I co-organise Open Tech Summit Thailand, an international open source conference, co-founded CoderDojo Thailand, a free programming community for kids age 7-17, co-organise Bangkok Scientifique, a meetup to improve science literacy, and am a part of the Homeschooling community because I always felt learning in communities (such as OpenStreetMap) was more impactful than learning in school.

I’m also an Angel Investor, having minor interests in real estate, agriculture, social commerce, etc.

I am Pieter and map under the name s8evq. I live in Aalter, Belgium. I teach adults and so I am working with OpenStreetMap just as a hobby. I have no GIS background but have always found maps fascinating.

Single point of contact

We have marketed community@osm.be as a single point of contact for OpenStreetMap questions. This has worked very well. About a dozen people are behind the address, several of them answer questions regularly, in French, Dutch, and English. This has helped to deal with the sudden influx of complaints about paths that the owner doens’t believe should be mapped. Most cases are from individuals, but we have had similar questions from nature NGOs and several governement organizations. We use those cases to build a relation with them.

I am Besfort Guri from Prizren, Kosovo, the youngest country in Europe. I am a board member at FLOSSK (Free Libre Open Source Software Kosova) an NGO that promotes FLOSS in Kosovo. I also run a small company called OpS-IN where we develop software based on GIS.

My first name is Claude. Being quite discreet, I hide my identity under the user name alouette955. This user name have been following me since the time of the BBS, which tells you my age. I am retired and live in the greater Montreal area. I like solitary activities such as cartography, genealogy and cycling.

Would you like to briefly introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Gustavo Soares (PlayzinhoAgro). With the quarantine I ended up becoming a full-time volunteer mapper. I am also an ElementaryOS fanboy and free software activist. My favourite editor has been IDv3 and I have tried to use JOSM. I have used an instance of DAMN Project, Divide and map. Now. as a task manager. It is a great alternative to the self-hosted HOT task manager mainly for being light. In the beginning I used it with a server with 500mb and 1vCPU being easy to install. I used to map cities in the state of Maranhão in Brazil. Currently I have been working in Timon, Maranhão where I now I live but I’m always posting new areas in the Mapeia.space.
