Hello Jorisbo. Would you like to briefly introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello everyone, my name is Joris Bo from Antwerp, about half a century on this planet and avid OpenStreetMap user.

A job in ICT, no children and a partner who also does a lot of work. As a compensation we are away for many weekends and holidays. Especially long bike rides and mountain hiking are our great hobbies.

My username is Vucod. I have been fascinated by maps since I was a child. Whether it’s to orientate myself in nature or to memorize them, they fascinate me. I am a regular hiker and the Ardennes is the destination where I practice the most.

My name is Louis and I contribute to OpenStreetMap under the username Diseret. I study at UCLouvain (Université catholique de Louvain) but I mainly map my region, the Gaume, in the south of Belgium.

Hello Thierry! Would you like to briefly introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Thierry Hancart and I live in the municipality of Gedinne, south of the province of Namur. When I was young, with the scouts, I became familiar with maps reading. Geography and history are areas that interest me. Passionate about hiking and photography, and interested in computers, I directed myself to OpenStreetMap at the time of the retreat.

Jacques, would you like to briefly introduce yourself to our readers?

At the age of 12, I learned to read and use IGN maps with a Recta compass, which allowed me to move almost anywhere. Today I am retired and I am interested in tourism projects. I live in Athus, a small Belgian town 500 m from Luxembourg and 2 km from France.

Meetup with Allan Mustard, chair of the OSMF board of directors

We’ll have a usual informal meetup: talk to us about anything related to OpenStreetMap. Total newbie or wondering about how best to do 3D mapping of subway stations? You’re guaranteed to learn something new, over a beer or a cup of tea.

Special occasion though: we will be joined by Allan Mustard. He is the chair of the Board of Directors of the OpenStreetMap Foundation. The Foundation supports (but doesn’t control) the OpenStreetMap project - it keeps the servers running and intervenes when the community runs into trouble. Allan is a recently retired ambassador for the United States, and was elected to the Board at the end of 2019. Chances are Guillaume will also be here (elected in 2019, treasurer) as well as Joost (elected in 2018, secretary).

Towards Equal Street Names with Open Data

The names of public spaces (streets, avenues, squares and others) define the identity of a city and how citizens interact with it. Brussels suffers from a major inequality between male and female street names and we want to help fix this!

There are several ways to approach the inequality of street names and leverage a positive change in our society. Ours is with the use of Open Data. We want to use technologies to create a world where knowledge creates power for the many, not the few.

Hack Your Future: Presentation day

Hack Your Future is a project where refugees are given a crash course in computer programming work. At the end of their classes, they can participate in a ‘bootcamp’, where they build a small, meaningful project.

This class will build an application around bivakzones (and possible around social amenities), heavily leaning on OSM. After working on this for four weeks, a small presentation and demo-moment is given. We are invited as well, either to have a look at their cool work and to man an OSM booth.

FOSDEM 2020 - Geospatial devroom

FOSDEM is a free event for software developers to meet, share ideas and collaborate.

Every year, thousands of developers of free and open source software from all over the world gather at the event in Brussels.

The Geospatial devroom is the place to talk about the state of the art of open, geo-related data, free and open source geospatial software and its ecosystem. This includes standards and tools, e.g. spatial databases, online mapping tools, geospatial services, used for collecting, storing, delivering, analysing, and visualizing geodata.

FOSDEM 2020 - Meetup/Dinner

FOSDEM is a free event for software developers to meet, share ideas and collaborate.

Every year, thousands of developers of free and open source software from all over the world gather at the event in Brussels.

We’ll meet to have dinner in the city center on Saturday evening (location still to be determined).
